
What Is an ABS Pipe?

Depending on the different ratios of raw materials, ABS pipes can be classified into various grades, such as general grade, heat-resistant grade, flame-retardant grade, electroplating grade, etc. Among them, the ABS materials used for pressure pipelines have strict performance requirements: the minimum required strength MRS is ≥ 14 MPa, and the minimum overall usage (design) coefficient C is 1.6.

Key points to note
Pressure pipes and non-pressure pipes are incompatible: ABS pipes used in pressure systems must use pressure-specific pipe fittings and cannot be mixed with DWV (drainage/waste/ventilation) pipe fittings.
Pay attention to weather resistance: Long-term exposure to ultraviolet rays may affect the physical properties of ABS pipes. For long-term outdoor use, protection measures (such as coating with a protective layer or underground laying) need to be taken.
Risk of compressed air testing: Testing the pipeline system with compressed air poses safety hazards (due to the huge stored energy), and prior consultation with the manufacturer is necessary before conducting pneumatic tests.
Material purity requirement: ABS for pressure pipelines should be virgin material; recycled plastic is excluded.
