Curved mesh PE rigid drainage pipe
What is it? What does it look like?
This is a type of drainage pipe material made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and produced through a special process. The most distinctive feature of it lies in its "asymmetric structure":
The upper part (approximately two-thirds of the pipe wall): Covered with a dense network of permeable holes, used to collect the water seeping from the soil.
The lower part (approximately 1/3 of the pipe wall): Completely sealed and impermeable, forming a "seepage prevention channel", ensuring that the collected water can flow smoothly along the pipe and preventing the water that has already seeped in from leaking back into the soil again. This is what is called preventing "secondary seepage".
What are its outstanding features?
The drainage efficiency is extremely high.
Its water collection capacity is 5 to 10 times that of traditional seepage pipes, and the opening rate can reach 60% to 75%. The flow speed of water within the pipe is also 2 to 3 times faster than that of concrete pipes or ordinary corrugated pipes.
Good stress resistance performance
Due to its unique corrugated mesh structure, it possesses excellent hoop stiffness (for some products, it must be ≥ 2kN/m²) and hoop flexibility. Even when compressed by soil or bent, it is unlikely to rupture and has strong anti-sagging capability.
High durability
It is made of HDPE material, which is corrosion-resistant and anti-aging. The underground installation can last for more than 50 years.
Convenient for construction
The pipe is lightweight and easy to handle. When connecting, only standard PVC fittings such as straight pipes and elbows are needed for socket connection. There is no need to wrap and enclose geotextile around the pipe wall as in traditional perforated pipes. Instead, simply lay the geotextile on the gravel cushion layer.
Where is it mainly used?
It can be seen in almost all projects that require efficient drainage:
- Transportation engineering: Subgrade, pavement and central green belt drainage ditches of highways and railways, as well as tunnel drainage.
- Municipal Affairs and Environmental Protection: Drainage beneath sports fields, golf courses, and airport runways, collection of leachate from landfill sites.
- Hydrology and Agriculture: Drainage on slopes and dam slopes, irrigation and drainage in farmlands, salt-affected land remediation (salt drainage pipes).
- Construction project: Drainage at the back of the retaining wall to lower the groundwater level
What are the key points to consider during installation?
Only with the correct installation can it achieve its maximum effectiveness. Here are a few "rules" that need to be observed:
The orientation must be correct: During installation, the perforated part must face upwards to receive the water seepage; the non-perforated sealed part must face downwards to form a drainage channel.
Backfilling requires attention: Around the pipes, crushed stones should be used for backfilling. The diameter of the crushed stones should not exceed 5 centimeters. Before backfilling, it is best to lay a layer of anti-seepage geotextile fabric at the bottom of the trench. After backfilling with crushed stones, a layer of reverse-filter geotextile fabric should be laid on top of the crushed stone layer to prevent sediment from accumulating and blocking the pipes.
Storage instructions: The pipe material is a plastic product. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight to prevent thermal expansion and contraction as well as aging. Store it in a cool place.
