Carbon steel flanges are a very crucial component in pipeline engineering. You can think of them as the "movable interface" or "universal connector" of the pipeline. They are tightly connected with another flange through bolts and gaskets, enabling a secure connection between pipes and pipes, between pipes and valves or equipment, while also facilitating future disassembly and maintenance.

What is it? What does it look like?
- Core function: It is akin to a "quick disassembly and assembly mechanism". It transforms the pipe connection from a fixed welding process to an adjustable interface that can be "unlocked" and "relocked" at any time. This makes the installation, maintenance, and replacement of the equipment extremely convenient.
- Basic form: Usually, it is a disc-shaped metal part with multiple bolt holes evenly distributed on the disc. Two flanges are placed opposite to each other, a sealing gasket is inserted between them, and then the bolts are passed through the holes and tightened to achieve a secure sealing connection.
- Common Materials: As the name suggests, the material is carbon steel. The common grades include WCB (cast), A105 (forged), Q235B, 20# steel, etc. To prevent rust, the surface is usually treated with electroplating (such as galvanizing), applying anti-rust paint, etc.
What are its key features?
- Superior performance: It boasts extremely high strength and rigidity, capable of withstanding tremendous pressure and tension. It is suitable for industrial environments with high pressure and high temperature.
- Sealing performance is reliable: The seal is achieved by pressing the sealing gasket tightly. As long as the gasket is selected correctly and the bolts are tightened properly, "no oil leakage" can be ensured. It can also be used in media containing suspended solid particles.
- Extremely versatile: It can be found in various places, from chemical plants and power stations to the water supply and fire protection pipelines in our daily buildings.
What are the strict requirements for installation?
- Inspection: The sealing surfaces of the flanges and the gaskets must be clean and free of scratches.
- Alignment: The two flanges should remain parallel, with the deviation not exceeding 0.15% of the outer diameter of the flanges, and not exceeding 2mm at the maximum. The bolt holes should be aligned, and the bolts should be able to be easily inserted.
- Tightening: The bolts should be tightened symmetrically and evenly (for example, in a cross-crossing sequence), and not be tightened completely on one side before tightening the other side. After tightening, the length of the bolt protruding from the nut should be basically the same.
- Protection: If the installation is underground or in an open area, anti-corrosion measures must be taken for the flanges, bolts, and nuts.
