Modified polypropylene power cable protection pipe
What is an MPP pipe?
MPP cable protection pipe is a type of modified polypropylene plastic pipe specifically designed for protecting underground high-voltage power cables. Its most prominent feature is "high strength, high temperature resistance, and flexible construction". Particularly, it can be laid using non-digging technology, and is widely used in urban construction.
The full name of MPP pipe is modified polypropylene power cable protection pipe. It is mainly made of modified polypropylene and is formed through extrusion process. It is particularly suitable for cable protection in high-voltage transmission lines above 10KV.

Core features and advantages
Outstanding high-temperature resistance performance:
Its Vicat softening temperature can reach around 150℃. Even if the cable is heated by long-term electricity supply (usually below 90℃), the pipe material will not soften or deform. Even under the high temperature generated by a short circuit of the high-voltage cable (up to 100℃), it can maintain its shape and continue to protect the cable. According to national standards, it should show no cracking or deformation after being placed in a 100℃ oven for 1 hour.
Other advantages
- High mechanical strength
- Excellent electrical insulation properties
- Flexible in construction and highly adaptable
- The pipe is lightweight and smooth, with low friction resistance.
- Corrosion-resistant and aging-resistant
- Hot melt welding offers high connection strength.

Construction and Purchase Precautions
Construction Key Points
During the construction process, avoid any throwing or exposure to direct sunlight. When performing hot-melt welding, ensure that the axes of the two pipes are aligned, the end faces are cut smoothly, and adjust the heating temperature and time according to the climatic conditions. The minimum bending radius of the pipe material should be ≥ 75 times the outer diameter of the pipe.
Purchase Instructions
It is recommended to pay attention to whether the pipe materials meet the national standards during the procurement process. Be vigilant of the possible inferior products in the market or the situation where HDPE pipes are falsely labeled as MPP pipes. Inferior pipe materials may fall off during welding, or deform due to poor heat resistance, and thus fail to effectively protect the cables.

Where It Shines Brightest
You can see its presence in many places, mainly including:
- Urban power grid: Used for the construction and renovation of urban power grids, as well as the laying of cables for urban street lights.
- Transportation and Municipalities: Widely used in transportation, road and bridge projects, as well as municipal renovation projects, to protect pipelines crossing roads and railways.
- Other pipeline projects: Besides electricity, they are also used for pipeline projects of telecommunications, gas, water supply, heating, as well as non-digging horizontal directional drilling for sewage drainage.
Usage & Maintenance: Keep the Power Flowing
Installation Know-How
- Use socket fusion or mechanical couplings for joints-tight, reliable connections that keep moisture out.
- Bedding matters: proper support distributes soil pressure, so the pipe stays strong underground.
- When pulling cables, avoid sharp bends-keep it smooth to protect both pipe and cable.
Keeping It in Top Shape
- Check access points for water now and then-moisture is a cable's enemy, and this pipe keeps it out.
- Use cable fault detectors to monitor health without digging-smart, efficient, and non-invasive.
