What Is a PP Pipe?

PP pipe (Polypropylene pipe) is a thermoplastic piping system made from polypropylene resin, known for its excellent chemical resistance, high temperature tolerance, and long service life. PP pipes are widely used in industrial fluid transport, chemical processing, water supply, and environmental engineering where corrosion resistance and hygiene are critical.

The PP material itself is non-toxic and will not rust or release heavy metal ions like some metal pipes do. It can meet the hygiene standards for drinking water and is highly suitable for the transportation of purified water and domestic drinking water.

PP pipes are particularly suitable for transporting hot water. Taking PP-R as an example, its long-term usage temperature can reach 70℃, and the short-term usage temperature can even reach 95℃. At the same time, the PP material itself is an insulator with poor heat conductivity, and has good insulation performance. When used for hot water transportation, it can significantly reduce heat loss.

The most common connection method for PP pipes is thermal fusion connection. Using a special heating tool, the pipe material and pipe fittings are heated and melted to fuse together. The strength of the connection point is even higher than that of the pipe material itself, forming a single unit and completely eliminating the risk of water leakage.

Common Types of PP Pipes

PP-H (Homopolymer PP Pipe): High strength, excellent high-temperature resistance, but becomes brittle at low temperatures, and has slightly poorer impact resistance. It is mainly used in industrial pipelines, chemical pipelines, and other scenarios where high strength is required.

PP-B (Block Copolymer PP Pipe): The impact resistance is the best, especially the low-temperature impact resistance. However, its rigidity and high-temperature resistance are slightly lower than those of PP-R, which is commonly used in cold water pipes, floor radiant heating pipes, etc.

PP-R (Random Copolymer PP Pipe): With the best overall performance, it also possesses excellent high-temperature resistance and impact resistance. It is currently the mainstream choice for indoor cold and hot water pipelines in buildings, and is widely used in cold and hot water supply systems, heating systems, and pure drinking water pipelines within buildings.
