In simple terms, the greatest appeal of PoE technology lies in the fact that a single network cable can simultaneously transmit both network signals and power. This is like combining a highway and an oil pipeline into one, allowing devices such as network cameras and wireless APs to be connected to the network while also being powered, without the need to separately connect power cords.
This technology can be achieved through two ingenious designs:
Principle 1: Utilizing "idle" lines: In the early 100-megabit networks, the network cable (with 8 cores) only used 4 of them to transmit data. The PoE technology makes use of the other 4 "idle" lines to supply power.
Principle 2: Current and Signal "Superposition": In gigabit networks, all 8 wires are used to transmit data. At this point, the PoE technology adopts a more advanced method, superimposing the current as "common-mode voltage" on the data transmission lines. Because the frequencies of the current (low frequency) and the network signal (high frequency) are vastly different, they can "run" in the same wire without interfering with each other.
Because the cables transported by this type of pipeline have strong conductivity and low resistance, they will cause significant radiation interference during the process of transmitting network signals and electricity. Therefore, the protective pipe we designed has added a tin foil layer on the inner wall of the pipeline to shield the radiation interference, ensuring the long-term stability of the electrical signals and network signals.

The reason why PoE technology is so widely adopted nowadays is that it has addressed many challenges encountered in actual deployment:

There is no need to install power sockets and separate power lines for each device, which significantly reduces the cost of cables and labor.

The equipment can be installed in areas that are difficult to reach with traditional power sockets, such as high ceilings or outdoor poles.
Safe and reliable, centralized management
PoE devices use low-voltage power supply and have an internal "handshake protocol", which only supplies power to compatible devices and avoids damaging non-PoE devices. At the same time, all devices' power can be centrally managed in the background through a network switch, and even remotely restarted, which is very convenient.
