
Reinforced Thermoplastic Pipe
RTP pipe, officially known as "Reinforced Thermoplastic Pipe", is an innovative product that combines the flexibility and corrosion resistance of plastic with the high-strength capacity of reinforcing fibers. It can be visualized as a "sandwich" structure hose, which is both as sturdy as steel pipes and as flexible as ropes, making it an emerging choice in fields such as oil and gas extraction and deep-sea engineering.
I. What does it look like? -- A sandwich-like core structure
- Inner liner: In direct contact with the transported medium, it is made of corrosion-resistant and high-temperature-resistant polyolefin (such as HDPE) materials to ensure the purity and safety of fluid transportation.
- Reinforcement layer: The "skeleton" and power source of the pipeline. It achieves pressure-bearing by wrapping high-strength fibers (such as glass fibers, aramid fibers, etc.), and determines the maximum working pressure of the pipeline.
- Outer sheath: The "protective suit" of the pipeline, protecting it from external environmental erosion. Usually, it is a wear-resistant plastic layer. When laid on the ground surface, anti-ultraviolet materials are specially added.
II. Advantages of RTP Pipes
1. Flexibility & Lightweighting:
It can be rolled into long coils (a single coil can reach 2000 meters), and its weight is only 1/6 of that of the same specification steel pipe.
2. Corrosion-resistant & Long-lasting:
Both the inner and outer layers are made of high molecular plastics, and no anti-corrosion coating is required.
3. Resistant to high pressure and high temperature
The maximum operating pressure can reach up to 32 MPa, and the temperature range is from -42℃ to 135℃.
4. Very few joints.:
The single strand is extremely long, significantly reducing the number of connection points.
III. Where to use it? -- Three typical application scenarios
- Oil and gas field exploitation (on land and in the deep sea):This is the most significant application of RTP pipes. In onshore oil fields, they are used for high-pressure water injection, alcohol injection, and oil and gas gathering and transportation, solving the problem of corrosion in metal pipes; in the deep sea, they can also "penetrate" into the inner part of old steel pipes (interstitial technology), forming a "tube within a tube" structure, performing a "minimally invasive surgery" on the aging submarine pipelines and extending their service life.
- Special operating conditions and environmental remediation: Suitable for fluid transportation in mines and in highly corrosive environments such as salt brine chemical industries. Moreover, when laid in areas with strict environmental protection requirements, due to its corrosion resistance and no-welding properties, it can significantly reduce the ecological risks caused by leakage.
- New energy transmission: It has currently been developed for hydrogen transportation and is one of the most promising pipeline solutions in the future hydrogen energy industry chain.
